Hello All,
This is where I explain the gist of things.
What we are doing is creating a little online community of cooks. This allows us to share recipes more easily as a group and, hopefully, with other people too. Having a range of contributors lets us to span a greater range of tastes, from vegetarian, vegan and allergy free to packed with enough bacon and cheese to make the vegans faint and people with high cholesterol weak in the knees.
Naturally, while recipes that come directly from you or your family would be great, recipes that are not of your own creation are also welcome as long as they give credit where it is due – as in, “from Cookbook, by Author (Publisher)”. If you want to write a review on a whole cookbook, go ahead. Just be sure to tag it as a cookbook review. If your recipe has a story behind it, include it! I think it adds character.
In terms of a format, I know we all have different ways of writing recipes, but if we stay consistent, the blog will look nicer. A format with ingredients first, rather than scattered throughout is the easiest for the checking-the cupboards-to-see-what-to-shop-for phase. The recipes posted so far should fit the format pretty well. Please try to provide a picture… which you will have to email to me, since I’m the administrator (sorry). Recipes with pictures seem to be the ones that people make first in cookbooks, because they can go, “Ooh – THAT looks tasty!” (Especially if you photograph it looking tasty.) When you send me your pictures, make sure you tell me what they are for so I make sure they get posted in the right place. There is a long list of categories, so that we can tag the recipes for easy reference (on the right side of the site.) So, you can/ should give things multiple category tags.
You can post as much or as little as you’d like/ time will allow. Adding comments on each others’ posts will also let us give feedback on the recipes. If you make a variation on someone’s recipe and it is scrumptious, tell us about it. Because we might want to try it too. (Or if you forgot to include a step in one of your recipes, someone can ask where it went…)
If you have questions, or if I invited you to contribute but you haven’t yet, email me. And, if you want to become a contributor, tell me if you already have a WordPress blog. You don’t have to, but it makes a difference in terms of how you become a contributor. If you need help, I’ll walk you through making a post, adding categories and whatever else you need.
Also, if any of you don’t want me to use your (first) name in reference to something let me know.
Thanks :)
x Amelia

New Categories!
2.24.09
I added a few more categories and changed the names of a couple others. We now have the option to tag dishes with “meat” or “fish” (although, so far, we dont seem to need them very much…) Also, “cheap” and “expensive” have become “$” and “$$$,” with “$$” in the middle.

Line Spacing
3.1.09
If you are trying to change the line spacing of your ingredients (or anyplace else) from double to single spacing, there IS a way to do it. I am sure there is a less convoluted way of fixing this, but what I have been doing is highlighting all of the ingredients, clicking on one of the list buttons (either numbered or bulleted, just next to bold and italicised) and then clicking it again. This changes the line spacing from double to single for some reason. If I find a better way to do this, I will let you know.
